Outline for English 011

Topic: Sexual Education Abstinence Programs (Against)
Thesis: The author is stating how the abstinence programs isn’t the knowledge kids need to know about sex.
Support 1: There is a need for better reproductive education in America.
Detail: Four out of every five teen pregnancies are unintended. Every year one millions American teenagers will become pregnant. The majority of these pregnancies are unintended because teens didn’t know how to use contraceptives properly.
Detail: Every year, one million American teenagers will become pregnant. The vast majority of these pregnancies will be unintended because teens too often didn’t know how to use contraceptives properly.
Detail: The Bush administration doesn’t see things that clearly, and is instead taking public health advice from the right-wing religious conservative organizations who believe the best approach to “solving the problem” of teen pregnancy and STI transmission is abstinence-only-until-marriage education.
Support 2: Three-fourths of U.S. teens have premarital sex by age 20, and 58% have had it before age 18. Abstinence education has little to no effect on sexual practices of teenagers.
Detail: One girl accepted a ring the Silver Ring thing, a youth abstinence program; and lost her virginity two weeks later. Many boys believed that the stories about sex made “the man.” And a handful of students engaged in sex acts with multiple partners.
Detail: Girls also seem to go with the desires of male counterparts in order to be accepted socially. We need to help teens with the enormous social and sexual pressures they face.
Detail: Many who had sexual experiences realized later that they regretted their decisions and hoped for something more meaningful: a loving relationship. Kids need to learn how to develop healthy sexual relationships, whether or not they are forever.
Support 3: Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage leave behind teens that:
Detail: Have already been sexually active, been sexually abused. Abstinence rely on messages of fear and shame for those who have engaged in premarital sex. Sexual health is not just physical but emotional too.
Detail: Are HIV positive or have other STDs. Parents arent married. Suggesting that these families are inferior or detrimental to society can harm and alienate many young people.
Detail: Are homosexual, bisexual, transgender or questioning. Material that excludes part of the student body, provides misinformation, and feeds false stereotypes has no place in the classroom.

10th Assignment

Dear Santa,
This Christmas I am only going to ask you for three things. Even though some of these things may be slightly expensive I am sure you'll manage to fulfill my wishes. I would like a brand new Mazda 6, with four doors please. In white would be even better. I also would like a 8GB iPod BLACK with all my music on it already. And lastly, I would like the rest of my schooling to be paid off, no matter where I transfer.
The Mazda 6 is a very understanding since I have been asking you for a few years. This year you can't say no because I have my basic license and have been driving for almost two years!
The iPod is an accessory with the car.
Tuition is so important! I can't stand having to pay to do homework and read!
Please Santa, I'm sure you won't regret it!
Love,
Angela C

Bonus

I definitely know what its like to dump that annoying disturbing friend. And it's really weird that you said that because I too "broke up" with a friend. Nobody that really meant anything. She was a crappy friend anyway.

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for life and change.

YAY FOR LIFE!<3

9th Assignment

Katt Williams is one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen. I love his topics and view on areas. His voice, facial expressions, and style helps the mood become even more hilarious. He's mostly known for his discussion on weed. But he also goes into racial, war, and relationship talk. I can't stop laughing when I watch this guy!

Wisdom Teeth

Good god what is going on with my gums in the back? It's so painful! When I run my tongue over the area it feels sharp. It like a thousand knifes stabbing through my mouth. What the hell wisdom teeth? You choose the worst time to come in. It's almost Thanksgiving and if you decide to prevent me from eating my 5000 calorie meal I will be determined to rip you out of my face. Pliers and gauze in hand. I hate you wisdom teeth. You may result in some great pain killers that will help me feel LaLaDeeDa, but you will not take away my great tasting turkey, and mashed potatoes.
Please refrain wisdom teeth. Please refrain from coming through. At least till Christmas!

Thanksgiving

Mmmmm. I love Thanksgiving. Despite the fact that I have an extremely small family and I don't have any options on where to eat. It's going to be the first Thanksgiving without my great grandma Nonie. I've decided instead of staying home and cooking for me and my mom, I am going to attend at my aunts house.
Since my grandmother passed away it has brought me and my family closer together. We've realized that you can't always think that someone is going to be there. We've grown a strong bond with each other.
This Thanksgiving in our prayers were going to pray to Nonie and thank her for bringing us all together closer. One tight knit. We'll always grieve on her death, after all she was a lady you could never forget.

8th Assignment.

Dear Volcom Clothing,
Why is it that I find myself in love with your clothing line? I spend the whooping seventy dollars on your jeans! Seriously, I was expecting them to last for life. But why is it after only one whole year of wearing them did the button break? Also I had purchased a sweatshirt, I believe I spent 100 dollars on. I didn't even get through a whole season until the zipper jammed and fell off. Oh and the wallet I bought for thirty dollars withered away to nothing. Just completely fell apart. IM FURIOUS! I'm so not digging your line anymore. I mean you have adorable clothing, but it's not worth it. My suggestion is that you make your clothing more durable and worth the price you charge for it.

Exterminator

Can someone please tell me why every classroom in the Russel Building has nats, and fruit flys in it? It's disgusting, and a distraction to learning. Fruit flys are known for being pests. They roam around old rotting fruit. Which means that these disgusting living things are infesting a rotten fruit somewhere in the building. Where is this precious fruit? I will personally someone five dollars to get rid of it.

7th Assignment

Missing six weeks of work and your sure to get fired. College is different from high school. I understand high school having an attendance policy but you pay to go to college and with that students missing class has to come with a major emergency or sickness.

Three days in a semester is a reasonable amount of days to be absent in a semester. If there's a doctors note involved though it should void out an absence. Being treated like employees is kinda harsh considering the fact that we are only in a junior community college. When we transfer to a university or big college is the time that we are going to need to be serious.

School to me right now is a huge part of my life. I have to consider it a full time job just for the fact that i attend full time. I work hard on my projects, and reports. And always look over my homework. I'm scared of failing at this point of my life. I have to much to offer to the world to fail and not succeed.

Ice Princess

This a "poem" I wrote my freshman year of high school.
I didn't write it for any classes. Just in a journal I kept that I recently scanned through. This is about the abandonment I had felt at the time from my father.

In the darkness
not of the night
but of my loneliness
without you in my life
I reach for nothing
and nothingness reaches back
I search for the warmth
you once gave me
coldness from you
freezes my heart
don't know what is worse:
the loneliness of the emptiness
or the thought
of never loving again...

You said we could write stuff like this right? Or is this too personal? I might be a little confused.

Sixth Assignment..

I never expected that at OCC no matter what the weather conditions... we would have to go to class. Walking in the rain stinks, especially if you have to go to work directly after class. I haven't fully gotten the chance to experience what OCC has to offer because I've been busy with school, and work. I plan on joining the colleges radio station. So for right now it meets my expectations. Once I get my associates degree I plan to transfer to an out of state school. College is what I though it was going to be; hectic, more laid back, and time consuming. I'm fine with it though. I'm starting to love school anyway.

Fifth Assignment!

I've had a favorite band since I was probably in the seventh grade. Incubus is by far the most moving band to me. Their incredible musicians, and gorgeous human beings. One of my all time favorite songs can relate to different changes in my life. It motivates me and reminds me that I need to stay on my feet in any situation.

"Nowhere Fast"
Will I ever get to where I'm going?
Will I ever follow through with what I had planned.
I guess it's possible that I have been a bit distracted
and the directions for me are a lot less in demand.
Will I ever get to where I'm going?
If I do, will I know when I am there?
If the wind blew me in the right direction
would I even care?
I would.
I take a look around; it's evident the scene has changed.
And there are times where I feel improved upon the past.
Then there are times when I can't seem to understand at all
and yes it seems as though I'm going nowhere....
really f**king fast.

Another great lyric is from a Pepper that I've been familiar with for a few years now. It defines to me throughout the whole song that having problems with friends, and family not understanding you can be hurtful.
"Too Much"
Catching my breathe is the term I use when the world gives up on me. Can you love or not? The truth finds all of us eventually.

And last but definitely not least is a quote that I use everyday of my life. Its pretty much specifies its meaning.

"CONSTANT IS CHANGE" -volcom stone

I live by "constant is change". I stand by it. Some of my friends can't except some of the things that are happening in their life. I can because everything is constantly changing, and I've come to accept that. ::smile::

Forth Assignment!

A meaningless conversation that I find myself in the middle of is girl drama. All my friends seem to feed off calling each other names and than talking about the drama at weekend parties. They talk so much crap about the other person, and ask for advice. Than a week later their friends again. I try to tune all of it out and have a good time but something always comes up.

Another conversation I tend to have a lot with my best girlfriends is how much guys suck. They take whatever they can get and than run off with your heart and than some other girl. We all make pacts that were better off single. And eventually get knocked off our feet by some new guy a few weeks later. I've been with my boyfriend for two years, so i basically find myself telling girls their better than that certain guy, and that they'll find a man who will appreciate their worth one day.

Girls won't talk about this kind of stuff with guys because were not comfortable. Nor will we talk about it girls that were not familiar with. This implies that humans have a certain comfort in some interactions that we have with each other. It all depends on the comfort level with the other individual.

Bonus Assignment

I don't see Yellowstone inescapable. Evacuating the 500 mile radius permanently would be a solution to the problem. In my opinion, if that's the area of a the mouth of a volcano that's supposed to go off every 300,000 years, why the hell are you building homes, and towns around it anyway? We can't prevent nature or weather from happening, but we always can prevent mass amounts of deaths. I would say booting the people out of their homes would be necessary. If they want to stay and melt, then let them.

Third Assignment! Yay!

Financial aid is a touchy subject with students. Some students are older with kids of their own attending school. Others have parents who make enough money to drive expensive BMW's around, but not enough for them to attend the school they dreamed of going to. Countless students come from very unfortunate homes, where financial aid is their only hope. I've done my comparisons on fortunate families and unfortunate families receiving financial aid.

Why is that a family who can afford to give their child a Mercedes for their first car be able to receive any type of financial aid? But yet a family who couldn't afford to get their child a first car receives an amount that still leaves them sucking wind? This is a very unfortunate case of the rich getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. The middle class people are screwed in this situation.

It's inhumane that any college bound student should have to pay excess amounts of money just to receive and education. College has left alumni bankrupt, in debt, or broke. Is financial aid really benefiting or jeopardizing the student?

Second Assignment

I don't think that the English language will die out. If anything it's dialect, or structure will change...like it has previously. If English changed, my thoughts wouldn't. How could my thoughts change if I know English? If the world around me changes the way it speaks, I may learn the new language but what I know won't go away. English is in my long-term memory, it could never go away or "fade" out.

First Assignment!

Okay, I'm not too sure about this whole blog thing... but here goes what I believe to be the first assignment.

There's a difference between writing papers for school, and writing Instant Messages, emails, and text messages. Emailing and Text messages are kind of like codes... Say your in class and your phone is receiving a text message from your mother saying "Sry, but ur sis was pickd up frm school w/ stmchflu, can u watch 2nite so i can go 2 bak2school nite?"... People shorten it to get to the point and save them time. Text messaging is nice for emergencies if someone isn't answering phone. It could be real writing in some cases, but for formal papers or documents text messaging is unprofessional, and ignorant.

Papers for school should be written in full words and sentences, with the correct grammar, and punctuation. Who in the right mind would want to write a five page paper in text form??Ha.Ha. Ha. Not me, but for all of you who would want to... Good luck with that!

Emailing is much easier because your telling a story on something that happened in your life. You can ask questions through email, and make plans. Writing a 500 word email wouldnt be hard because its filled with questions, answers, and statements. Writing a 500 word homework assignment is stressful, and you never know where to begin. If you have a 3 page paper that is on your reaction to how your group worked....UM what else am i supposed to tell you besides the fact that Jack was Lazy, Britt was a big contribution, Mike was sleeping, and Connie was doing all the reading? It makes it much more difficult to write something that is meaningless to the student.
